What Happened to July?

Here I am on the 31st wondering - "What happened to July?!?!?" - I thought Blogging was going to save me! It is very helpful but it seems a few notable things happened that I failed to keep up with so I'll just run them all together here and try to do better next month. I still need a few photos on some events but I better post what I can before my memory fails me too!

Alyssa took her first swim lessons:

This is her with her teacher doing a nice back float - she can now swim without "swimmies" but still prefers to keep her face as dry as possible.

Here's a shot of Alyssa in Morganton at Martha's Park where we had a nice 4th of July with Eya and Poppy. The "mountain water" was a little colder than she was used to!

This is probably a once in a lifetime shot where Alyssa actually wanted us to dress like "twins." We have on denim dresses, yellow crocs and gold watches. We did get a few looks while we were out for lunch - another good reason to live in a tourist town. Of course, I'd do just about anything for this girl!

We "found" Bebe' - this is Alyssa's most favorite Care Bear that disappeared about two years ago. She has so many we never thought it was a big deal and she really became more attached to her two main blankies. This summer when she transitioned up to the Older Preschool Class she would start crying at night when she said her prayers and would ask God to help us find Bebe'. At that point, we decided we had to look a little harder :) Now Bebe' has been going lots of places with us because he missed out on the past two years. I guess they all have to grow up one day but for now I love the security item thing!
Finally, Alyssa took a Karate Camp at her school - I'm still waiting on photos but she loved it and plans to continue in the fall. It was great for her Attention and Focus - one area we needed to work on, according to her teachers.
I guess that wraps up July it was a good one a busy one and a hot one - Let's hope August is even better!

Holt's Baptism

We made a quick trip to "Goldsbro" NC, as Alyssa called it, to see cousin Holt get baptized. He did so great and was singing with the children's choir and helping the pastor before it was all over. Alyssa had a blast playing with some of her newly met older cousins.
The only bad part of the weekend was getting stuck in a bad accident on I-26. After sitting on the interstate for an hour we decided to cut through the median, like the other crazy fools and take the scenic route. Our trip home barely deserves a mention compared to AA, Uncle Brad's and Holt's - it took them two days to get home!

God bless you little Holt - thanks for letting us be a part of your special day and weekend - we love you!

Happy Birthday Drew!

Even though Drew's Birthday was not until today, the 21st, we had to do a little celebrating yesterday!

This past year has been Drew's "Year of the Environment" so we had to celebrate with appropriate gifts! It's hard to believe that Mr. Republican is a fan of Al Gore - I never woulda thunk it!

His favorite present was a recycled materials t-shirt with "May the Forest Be With You" on it. Now when you combine saving our planet with Star Wars - Look Out!

And, of course, Alyssa had to ham it up with the cardboard beer - recycled materials also, I'm sure! Happy Birthday Darling - Best Husband I ever had!!!

Reading Class

For five weeks this Summer, Alyssa took a reading improvement class sponsored by Clemson University (Go Tigers!) taught on Saturdays at the College of Charleston. Although it was a challenge to get there a few times, we loved her teacher, Ms. J. and all three of us really learned a lot. Alyssa really enjoyed being a little girl on Campus! Here are a few photos:

Alyssa taking the "escalavator" - crackers in pocket, ready for anything!

Waiting for class to start - don't we look excited!

That's better - this family loves to read (such geeks)!

Auntie Carla's

What a wonderful day at Auntie Carla's at the Isle of Palms close to Kiteboard land - how many do you see in this photo? (The answer is six!)

Alyssa and Steven may have the best ride of all, thanks to Mr. Duane.
